PROGRAM DETAILS
9:00 - 10:00 a.m: Concrete Roof Deck Paver System II - 1 LU/HSW AIA Credit
Dale Buker, Architectural Sales Representative - County Materials
This course is designed to provide an overview of precast concrete roof deck paver systems,
including their advantages over alternative roof deck options; and, to help understand the advantage of slip resistance and safety benefits of concrete roof deck paver systems. This presentation covers the types of concrete roof deck pavers that are available, their material, composition and properties. Potential for projects to earn LEED points, system applications and installation.
10:00 - 11:00 a.m: Basics of Brickwork Detailing- 1 LU/HSW AIA Credit
Leroy Danforth, Design Services Manager - Glen-Gery Corporation
Water penetration is responsible for many of the problems encountered in masonry walls
today. The successful performance of a masonry wall depends on limiting the amount of water penetration and controlling any water that does enter the wall system. The concept behind the ‘brick veneer drainage wall’ is discussed in detail, as well as, the proper materials to specify in order to maximize a wall's water penetration resistance. The various elements and materials which make up a building are in a constant state of motion. All building materials expand and contract due to changes in temperature; some materials move with changes in moisture content. These major causes of movement: thermal, moisture, deflection and creep, along with the proper way to control these movements are the focus of this presentation.
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m: Masonry Wall Horizontal Reinforcement and Movement Joints
1 LU/HSW Credit
Sam Rubenzer, PE, SE - FORSE Consulting
This presentation addresses the need to horizontal reinforcement in masonry walls and review different options for movement joints depending on the level of horizontal reinforcement used. Focus is on best practice for design and construction of walls with various options considered for different types of masonry walls
